Pastor Marilyn Lewis
Pastor Marilyn currently serves as the pastor of Adams United Methodist Church in Lothian. Before this appointment, she served as a Certified Lay Minister at Mt. Calvary United Methodist Church and spent eight years as the Annapolis District Lay Leader for the Baltimore-Washington Conference. In her role as District Lay Leader, she was responsible for training and guiding 72 local church lay leaders within her district.
Inspired by God, Pastor Marilyn has been instrumental in starting various ministries. One of her notable contributions is the Women's Ministry, where she has coordinated an annual Women's Retreat for over 30 years. She believes the retreat provides a meaningful opportunity for women to explore their faith and reflect on their identity in Christ. Another impactful ministry she founded over 25 years ago is the Anointed Mine Ministry, which consists of three young men.
Pastor Marilyn is also known for her dedication to education and leadership development. She has facilitated workshops for churches on topics including Goal Setting, "Who Moved My Cheese," Emotional Awareness, FISH (Church Hospitality Training), and the 7 Imperatives of an Effective Leader. She has also been an instructor at the Discipleship Academy, now known as the Lay Servant Ministry Academy, where she has facilitated various classes.
Pastor Marilyn holds a BA degree and is currently attending Wesley Seminary, pursuing the Course of Study. She also works for the U.S. Navy as the Director of the Fleet & Family Support Center.
Throughout her life, God has provided Pastor Marilyn with numerous opportunities to serve. While living in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Sardinia, Italy, with her late husband, who was in the Navy, God inspired her to start gospel choirs at the Navy Chapels in both locations, enhancing the spiritual growth of those communities. She also organized African-American celebrations at several bases, coordinating various activities and plays.
Married to her late husband James for 41 years, Pastor Marilyn was blessed with two children, Corey and Jaime, and a daughter-in-law, Kim. She is the proud grandmother of four: Korrin, Kayden, Korey, and Elizabeth-James.
Pastor Marilyn’s life goal is to help others along their journey, and she always directs any praise to Calvary. Her constant refrain is, “To God be the Glory!” One of her favorite scriptures is Psalm 121: “I will look to the hills from whence cometh my help; my help cometh from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and Earth.”
